Approximately 20 projects have received funding under the government's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Subsidy Scheme, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Sun Dong said on Thursday.
The HK$3 billion scheme was launched in 2024 to support local universities, research centers, and enterprises in leveraging the computing power of Cyberport’s AI Supercomputing Centre to achieve scientific breakthroughs.
To enhance support, Sun announced that the Digital Policy Office will launch a Digital Corporate Identity Sandbox Programme within this year, which will be equipped with an AI assistant to help enterprises reduce their operational costs.
Sun reiterated that artificial intelligence is a key industry for Hong Kong's transformation and upgrading.
"The government has been promoting AI development in all aspects, including scientific research, computing power, data, talent, and funding, and is steadily advancing various policy measures," he said.
He added that the government will continue to strengthen infrastructure and promote applications in alignment with the nation's AI initiatives.
The authorities are also actively preparing for the establishment of the Hong Kong AI Research and Development Institute within this year.
The institute aims to comprehensively promote AI research and development, the commercialization of results, and the exploration of new application scenarios.
