A male Social Welfare Department social worker, understood to be providing services under the "one social worker per household" scheme for Wang Fuk Court residents, has died after collapsing last month.
Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun expressed profound sorrow and extended deepest condolences to the worker's family. The SWD has contacted the family to provide support and will continue to assist them.
Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung also offered condolences, stating the government is doing its utmost to help the family.
The "one household, one social worker" scheme was established to assist nearly 5,000 people affected by a major fire at Wang Fuk Court, helping with emergency accommodation, psychological support, and subsidy applications. The Legislative Council's welfare services panel discussed the scheme last month, with some members raising concerns about frontline social workers' workload.
