Hong Kong tennis player Coleman Wong Chak-lam advanced to the third round of the National Games men’s singles after defeating Hubei’s Chen Ye in a straight-sets victory on Sunday.
The No. 2 seed delivered an impressive performance today, serving a total of nine aces during the match at the Hengqin International Tennis Centre.
With a 79 percent first serve points won, he dominated the court and created six break points.
In the first set, he surged ahead by breaking Chen’s serve, clinching it at 6-4.
Wong didn’t slow down in the second set, where he broke Chen’s serve twice, wrapping it up with 6-3. He secured the match with a 2-0 set victory, advancing to the third round on Monday.
After the match, the 21-year-old described his performance as “decent”, although he had a bit of trouble sleeping last night and felt a little nervous.
He was thrilled to see so many fans cheering him on and particularly excited to compete on a livestreamed center court, which allowed fans in Hong Kong to tune in.
Following a brief rest, Wong is gearing up to join forces with Kevin Wong Chun-hun for their second round of the men’s doubles event this afternoon.
