Teachers identifying as "a group of St. Peter's Secondary School teachers" have written to the Education Bureau requesting the principal's replacement, citing over 30 staff departures in four years affecting teaching quality.
Located in Aberdeen, St. Peter's Secondary School recently faced public attention following a teacher's suicide. The letter described the school's situation as "severe," noting most departures weren't retirements but resignations, including six Chinese department teachers last academic year and seven English department teachers the previous year.
The letter expressed concerns about Principal Hui Hon-yin's management style and decisions. It also questioned the fairness of an August 22 Education Bureau visit, suggesting most interviewed staff were "the principal's close associates."
The Education Bureau confirmed requiring the school to provide detailed written explanations while reminding management to maintain good communication with staff. The bureau conducted random teacher interviews during their school visit.
The school's incorporated management committee declined to disclose specific staff departure numbers but stated they weren't abnormally high annually, with one year recording only four departures. The committee emphasized following standard hiring procedures and maintaining normal teaching loads.
Regarding the Education Bureau's visit, the committee noted interviewees were selected by the bureau, with other staff having optional meeting opportunities.
