The 35th HKTDC Hong Kong Book Fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will be held from 16 to 22 July at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Themed “Food Culture・Future Living”, this year’s book fair explores food and reading as both serve as carriers of culture.
This year’s World of Art & Culture zone of the book fair is presenting an interactive exhibition titled “Book a Table ・ Food for Thought” to promote Hong Kong as an east-meets-west centre for international cultural exchange. Using food as a bridge to connect cultures, this insightful exhibition offers visitors a chance to savour life and see the world through the dining table.
The exhibition is an international collaboration between eight artists and various consulates general in Hong Kong. The eight artists will curate eight tables, each exploring themes related to food and healthy living, surplus and future, table etiquette, lifestyle and culture, process, experience, music and art. Meanwhile, the consulates general will showcase related books and exhibits from around the world, creating a cultural feast that transcends borders and blends the ancient with the modern.
Apart from the exhibition, visitors can discover their personal dining personality and receive a recommended reading list that suits their personality type. Simply complete the Dining Personality Assessment, an interesting questionnaire that identifies eight distinct dining personalities, each representing different life attitudes and values that reflect the close relationship between food and lifestyle. It will also recommend visitors with a list of books based on their dining personality, enriching their reading and reflective experience.
Furthermore, visitors can discover their dining personality via AI-generated visuals, depicting eight different dining scenarios that transform abstract dining personalities into concrete visual experiences. These images not only showcase individual food preferences, but also highlight the unique charm of various dining environments.
This year, the fair’s theme of the year encourages people to explore diverse aspects of food culture through reading, savouring the cultural nuances and lifestyle attitudes behind the texts and delving into new food cultures shaped by future technologies.
In addition, more than 30 events, including talks and workshops, will be held in World of Art & Culture during the book fair to provide a multifaceted exploration of food culture.
