Wall Street opens subdued in last session of 2025, eyes yearly gains

Wall Street's main indexes opened muted on the last trading day of 2025, but approached a robust end to a roller-coaster year marked by uncertainty over President Donald Trump's tariffs and unrivalled euphoria around AI.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 4.5 points, or 0.01 percent, at the open to 48,371.52. The S&P 500 rose 2.6 points, or 0.04 percent, at the open to 6,898.82 , while the Nasdaq Composite rose 1.8 points, or 0.01 percent, to 23,420.853 at the opening bell.
