Asian equities tumbled on Friday as tech-sector weakness swept through global markets, dragging major regional benchmarks to multi-week lows.

Hong Kong’s benchmark Hang Seng Index fell 615 points, or 2.38 percent, to 25,220, while the city's tech index slid 3.21 percent to 5,395. Turnover jumped 16.55 percent from the previous session to HK$285.7 billion.
In Chinese mainland, the Shanghai Composite Index dropped 2.45 percent to 3,834, its biggest one-day fall since early April when U.S.–China tariff tensions roiled markets.
The Shenzhen Composite Index fell 3.41 percent to 12,538.
Elsewhere in Asia, Japan’s Nikkei ended down 2.4 percent, South Korea’s Kospi lost 3.79 percent, and Taiwan’s market fell 3.6 percent to a one-and-a-half-month low.
