MTR Corporation (0066) chief executive Jacob Kam Chak-pui will become chairman for a three-year term after his chief executive term ends this year, succeeding Rex Auyeung Pak-kuen, the government announced.
The appointments will take effect on January 1, 2026.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan expressed gratitude to Auyeung, who has led the rail giant since July 2019, for overseeing major projects including the completion of the Tuen Ma Line and the cross-harbor section of the East Rail Line.
Kam, 63, joined the corporation in 1995 and became chief executive in 2019.
Over nearly three decades, he has held key roles across Hong Kong and mainland operations, contributing to the completion and launch of 27 railway lines and extensions worldwide.
Kam pledged the MTR board will “continue to support the company’s strategic development, governance, and policy decisions to ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of MTR’s businesses.”
Auyeung expressed congratulations to Kam’s appointment and noted “the public's recognition and positive feedback on MTR's services and its contributions to Hong Kong have deeply moved me.”
The management reshuffle came after earlier announcements that Jeny Yeung Mei-chun, managing director for Hong Kong transport services, was promoted to chief executive officer, effective the same day.
