HSBC mandates office return amid desk crunch – reports

HSBC (0005) is joining other financial firms pushing more staff to return to the office, with all managing directors required to work from the office at least four days a week starting in October, Bloomberg reported, citing a memo.

The bank said senior managers are expected to “set the tone from the top,”emphasizing that in-person interactions are essential, according to the report.

However, the shift back to in-office work comes with a shortage of desks.

HSBC will move into its new London headquarters next year, facing a shortfall of about 7,700 desks, Bloomberg reported.
