Scale AI to cut 14pc of global staff following Meta investment

Scale AI is cutting 200 full-time jobs—about 14 percent of its global workforce—and ending contracts with 500 contractors, as it restructures its data-labeling business following rapid expansion and changing market demand.

The move comes one month after Meta Platforms invested US$14.3 billion (HK$111.54 billion) in the company and hired Scale co-founder and chief executive Alexandr Wang to lead its new superintelligence unit.

Interim CEO Jason Droege said the layoffs aim to streamline operations and reduce bureaucracy, with the company shifting focus toward enterprise and government sales. Reports say key clients, including OpenAI and Google, have scaled back work with Scale in recent months.

Founded in 2016, Scale generated about US$870 million in revenue last year and is forecasting US$2 billion in 2025.
