Chinese tea chain Nayuki (2150) has come under fire for one of its products allegedly containing a frog carcass, prompting the company to pledge compensation, according to mainland media reports.
A customer shared the discovery of a whole frog carcass in Nayuki’s floral tea product on mainland social media Xiaohongshu.
The consumer nearly ingested the carcass, which was found in a box of jasmine tea purchased last year.
The product has since been handed over to Nayuki, with China's market regulator also stepping in to investigate.
Nayuki confirmed that compensation will be offered in accordance with relevant food safety laws.
The consumer explained that the frog carcass closely resembled the white flowers in the tea, making it difficult to identify while brewing.
After consuming several sips, the consumer was horrified to almost ingest the carcass and experienced "significant mental distress."
Nayuki went public in Hong Kong in 2021. Its shares edged up 0.88 percent on Monday but have fallen by more than 15 percent so far this year.
