ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming met billionaire Elon Musk last year amid pending US restrictions on TikTok, as China had considered a deal to keep the popular video sharing app in the United States, the Wall Street Journal reported.
US President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order to delay the enforcement of the TikTok ban by 75 days on his first day back in office.
Before the implementation of the ban, there were rumors that China was evaluating the possibility of selling TikTok's US operations to Musk.
Over the weekend, Musk, a close ally of Trump, reportedly met with China's Vice President Han Zheng, who visited the US to attend Trump's inauguration ceremony.
