What will the Hong Kong of the future look like? Let your imagination soar by entering a creative competition organized by Henderson Land, which encourages students and designers to dream of a future based on its properties and win a cash prize of up to HK$50,000.
Named after the company's new brand manifesto "Realising Your Dream," the competition welcomes people to depict an ideal community, a city of the future or a dream way of life, using any form of digital media.
The works will be judged on their reflection of Henderson Land's three brand principles of innovation, sustainability and people.
"The competition hopes to offer the public a better understanding of our brand's devotion not only to innovation, sustainability and people but also to its efforts in encouraging communal imagination while promoting projects and developments that make our city, our life and our future better and brighter," said Henderson Land chairman Martin Lee.
Those taking part are split into two categories: a public group for contestants aged 18 and above, and a student group for full-time students in local secondary school, university or tertiary education.
"We encourage everyone to take part and unleash their imagination, especially those who want to turn their vision into reality," said Jessica Chong, head of strategic marketing at Henderson Land.
People can submit their work on the campaign website along with a 200-word description in Chinese or English, explaining its design concept, choice of medium and technique, as well as values and attitudes that the work evokes.
Works in all digital mediums are welcome, from a still silhouette to a short film. The only limitation is that all entries should be based on Henderson Land landmarks and projects across Hong Kong.
"We want the participants to explore their neighborhoods and take inspiration from Henderson Land's architectural landmarks over the years, including residential and commercial buildings as well as the many community projects supported by the group," said Chong.
Submissions should be made before January 31.
A panel of professional judges will then select winners in each category according to criteria such as theme consistency, usage of technology, originality and creativity, and the social value presented.
Each category will see a first, second and third-place, as well as special award, winners. Results will be announced in the second quarter of 2023.
The third and second-place winners will each receive a cash prize of HK$10,000 and HK$30,000, while the first place winners will take home HK$50,000 plus an art trip to Europe for two.
To encourage entries, Henderson Land invited several multi-media artists to show their creativity and provide some inspiration for those taking part.
Romain Nicoloso, a Hong Kong-based French artist, shared his imagination of the future land on Instagram, where giant tubes are used for transport between buildings.
The ideas of the competition instantly resonated with him.
"Imagination is for me the best way to dream again like I was when I was a child creating all kinds of unrealistic objects, characters or stories in which I was playing a key role," he said. "These imaginary worlds which seem unrealistic at the beginning can then take life if you believe in them."
Chong said this was the spirit Henderson Land wanted to promote. "Imagination is what brings dreams to life. And this is the essence of Henderson Land and how our story began. Through the creative competition, we hope to encourage communal imagination," she said.
