China says Taiwan leader's speech 'filled with lies': state media

China accused Taiwan's president on Thursday of telling "lies" in a speech he gave vowing to defend the island's sovereignty after large-scale military drills by Beijing, state media reported.

Lai Ching-te's New Year address was "filled with lies and nonsense, hostility and malice", said Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Chen Binhua, adding that Lai had "incited cross-strait confrontation", Beijing's Xinhua news agency said.
