Australian police have arrested five minors involved in a group attack targeting a 33-year-old Chinese student, who sustained significant injuries in Tasmania.
All the arrestees have been released on bail.
The Chinese Consulate General in Melbourne stated that the Chinese student is out of danger and in stable condition following the attack that happened on Wednesday (Aug 6). The individual is scheduled to undergo testing for concussion.
According to the media reports, the Chinese student was surrounded by a group of boys who threw trash at him in a shopping mall in Hobart. When he tried to leave, he was assaulted by approximately 20 teenagers, resulting in substantial injuries.
The student suffered a brain bleed, a concussion, along with fractures to the skull and facial area, necessitating his admission to the Intensive Care Unit where he received treatment for over 30 hours.
In response to the recent attacks on Chinese citizens in Tasmania, the Consulate General has formally communicated with the Tasmanian government and police, urging Australia to initiate appropriate actions against the offenders and to implement effective measures ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens.
The Consulate General plans to visit the injured student and their family members in Tasmania, as well as engage with police and relevant officials regarding this incident.
