A bridge under construction collapsed in Yancheng, Jiangsu province on Monday, killing at least two people and leaving three others missing, according to Chinese media reports.
The accident occurred at 5.46pm during work on the Xiangshui Yuegang Bridge, part of the Lianshen Line waterway project. The structure, a tied-arch bridge beam, gave way.
Following the collapse, city and county authorities immediately launched an emergency response and on-site handling. Two workers were severely injured and later died in hospital despite treatment. Three others remain unaccounted for. Rescue efforts, an investigation, and arrangements for the aftermath are underway.

The bridge is being built by China Railway 12 Bureau Group. A local government social media account highlighted the project in late November 2025, noting the 95-meter main span was largely complete and describing a busy construction scene with workers pushing to meet annual targets.
The Xiangshui Yuegang Bridge is a key part of the provincial Lianshen Line waterway improvement project, which aims to create a 1,000-ton-capacity north-south shipping channel.
