Former NBA star Stephon Marbury, affectionately known as Starbury, has officially tied the knot, announcing his marriage in a video released on the evening of April 7. This union has affectionately dubbed him a "son-in-law of China."
His bride, Wang Yuling, is a talented singer from Wuhan who rose to fame during the first season of "The Voice of China." Marbury, who has been residing in mainland China in recent years, also obtained a Hong Kong ID card through the Top Talent Pass Scheme in Hong Kong in 2023.
The couple registered their marriage on February 10 in Philadelphia, USA, as revealed in their announcement video. In the video, 48-year-old Marbury appeared alongside Wang, expressing his excitement about joining a Chinese family. "I am about to become a son-in-law with Chinese parents," Marbury stated, adding in fluent Mandarin, "Chinese son-in-law, Wuhan son-in-law."
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Marbury was a highly sought-after player in the NBA. He played for several teams, including the Timberwolves, Nets, Suns, Knicks, and Celtics.
In 2010, Marbury took his talents to the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), playing for the Beijing Ducks. His performance there earned him the affectionate nickname "Old Ma" and he became the first CBA foreign player to receive a Chinese "green card."
Wang Yuling, aged 39, hails from Wuhan, Hubei, and has made a name for herself as a singer, musician, and actress in mainland China. She pursued her education abroad, graduating from the London College of Fashion.
Wang gained significant popularity after her participation in the 2012 season of "The Voice of China," where she was part of Na Ying's team. Her performances of "No Regrets" and "Kai Men Jian Shan" propelled her to the top four, although she was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
