In a rare coincidence, two serious falls occurred on the same raceday at Sha Tin racecourse on Sunday, prompting three jockeys to be taken to hospital after being dislodged from their rides in two separate races.
Officials confirm Vincent Ho Chak-yiu, who took a fall in Race 6, Zac Purton and Angus Chung Yik-lai, who were dislodged in Race 9, are all conscious and talking following the nasty falls on Sunday.
A three-ride pile-up occurred in race 9, when Legend St Paul's stumbled and sent jockey Angus Chung Yik-lai crashing to the turf.
Lupo Solitario, with Keith Yeung Ming-lun aboard, and Zac Purton-ridden Silvery Breeze, which was following closely behind Chung's ride, were both affected and were dislodged from their rides.
It is understood that Purton and Chung were conscious after the accident, and were sent to the hospital for further examinations.
Yeung, on the other hand, escaped injuries, but he had to withdraw from the remainder of the raceday.
Earlier, top local jockey Vincent Ho Chak-yiu was rushed to hospital following a serious fall in race 6.
The horse, named Oldtown, stumbled when it was sitting in the middle of the pack during the final dash to the finishing post and sent Ho crashing to the turf.
Oldtown was able to stand back on its feet right after the fall and gallop away unharmed but Ho remained motionless on the track as paramedics rushed to his aid.
Ho was placed in a neck brace and loaded into an ambulance before being taken to nearby Prince of Wales Hospital.
Jockey Club officials are expected to make further updates on Ho’s status later in the day.
