The US President Donald Trump engaged in a series of derogatory remarks directed at CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins, who posed questions regarding the wrongful deportation of an El Salvadoran national.
The situation emerged following a United States Supreme Court ruling, which mandated the individual's return to the country.
Throughout the interaction, Trump characterized Collins, who serves as the network's White House correspondent, as a "low-rated anchor" and criticized CNN's credibility as he took questions alongside El Salvador President Nayib Bukele on Monday in the Oval Office.
Collins sought clarity on the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident who had been sent to the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT), a notorious facility in El Salvador, last month under the provisions of the 18th-century Alien Enemies Act.
The Trump administration has asserted that Abrego Garcia was affiliated with the violent gang; however, the United States Supreme Court has instructed the White House to "facilitate" his release from prison by April 10.
When Collins initially inquired about the matter, Trump dismissed her question by referencing CNN's unfavorable ratings before transitioning the discussion to Attorney General Pam Bondi to defend the deportation and subsequent actions.
Furthermore, Trump directed Homeland Security Adviser Stephen Miller to address the query while reiterating his critique once again to CNN.
"Can you just also respond to that question because you know it's asked by CNN and they always ask it with a slant because they're totally slanted because they don't know what's happening," Trump told Miller.
"That's why nobody's watching them."
