Over 40 percent of survey respondents deemed the development plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area would benefit Hong Kong’s transport and logistics industry and innovative technology industry.
A telephone survey by the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, conducted from February 26 to March 11 with 711 respondents aged 18 or above, found that 39.4 percent of the respondents viewed the GBA development plan as an opportunity for Hong Kong, while 21.5 percent disagreed.

As to whether the plan would benefit Hong Kong's transport and logistics industry, 44.4 percent agreed and 18.5 percent disagreed. Compared to last year’s survey, support for this view increased by 5.7 percentage points, while disagreement decreased by 5.3 percentage points.
The CUHK survey also found that 61.7 percent of the respondents perceived Hongkongers’ competitive advantage in mainland GBA cities as “quite little” or “very small,” while 29.6 percent viewed it as “quite large” or “very large.”
When assessing Hong Kong’s attractiveness to overseas talent in innovation and technology, 62.1 percent considered its appeal to be “quite small” or “very small,” whereas 27.7 percent thought it was “quite large” or “very large.”
Regarding which city would benefit more from cooperation in innovation and technology between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, 42.3 percent of respondents saw it as equally beneficial, while 16.5 percent thought Hong Kong would benefit more.
