Hong Kong's high property prices and rents are having a negative impact on physical and mental health, a university survey has found.
Chinese University of Hong Kong Institute of Health Equity recommended that the government, through housing policies, such as increasing the supply of public housing, improve the affordability of housing and reduce social health disparities.
The institute questioned 1,978 adults, and calculated the housing affordability based on the respondents' available income after deducting housing costs.
The heavier the housing burden, the worse the physical and mental health, the survey determined.
