Police find remains of suspected murder victims in Kaohsiung river

Police have found human remains in a Kaohsiung river as part of an investigation into suspected killings.

Chang Chieh-tsung, a 72-year-old man from Kaohsiung, is suspected of murdering his sister-in-law and two other elderly women at different times before dismembering their bodies, per UDN. Surveillance camera footage showed Chang dumping contents in Qianzhen Canal, prompting a police search of the river that started on Thursday.

Since Thursday, police have identified remains belonging to a 75-year-old woman surnamed Chang and a 71-year-old woman surnamed Chao.

Police have yet to find the body of the suspect's 75-year-old sister-in-law surnamed Huang. 

Based on their last known visits to his residence, police estimated that Huang was murdered before Nov. 30, Chang before Jan. 18, and Chao before Feb. 2.

Police found traces of blood from all three victims inside Chang’s home. Surveillance footage also captured him leaving his residence 12 times between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Feb. 3, per CNA. 

In five instances, Chang placed black plastic bags on his bicycle and took them to the Qianzhen River, where he dumped the contents into the river.
