Two Japanese men were fatally shot after exiting a taxi in a busy area of Manila on Friday, in what authorities suspect was an armed robbery.
According to the Japanese Embassy and local police, the victims were attacked by an armed assailant who approached them immediately after they stepped out of the vehicle. The gunman seized their belongings before escaping on a motorcycle with an accomplice.
The embassy has issued a warning urging Japanese nationals to exercise caution, citing a recent surge in robberies targeting Japanese citizens in the Philippine capital.
The shooting took place in a popular tourist district, prompting police to increase patrols in the area as investigations continue.
No further details about the victims or potential suspects have been released.
