Thirteen-year-old Chinese girl kills classmate in Australian homestay

A 13-year-old Chinese student allegedly stabbed and killed a 14-year-old Chinese classmate at a homestay in Australia, where she was arrested and charged with murder.

The case occurred at 10.20pm on Monday (Aug 4) at Edgeworth, New South Wales, as the host family of the homestay heard a disturbance and found the 14-year-old girl with knife injuries to her chest. She was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. 

A kitchen knife was seized as evidence. 

The 13-year-old female suspect was arrested on the scene and will face trial in a children's court.

Investigation showed that both girls arrived in late July under the same exchange program and were set to return to China on August 16.

Police officers said no prior relationship between the girls, beyond sharing the homestay, has been confirmed.
