Following the disaster, netizens unearthed a prediction made by Thai fortune teller Mor Plai at the end of last year. She had foreseen an earthquake in Myanmar during the first half of the year, specifically mentioning that it would affect Bangkok and even lead to building collapses and aftershocks. Mor Plai has gained global fame for her accurate prediction.
Thailand faces severe flooding and minor earthquakes
In a recent YouTube video uploaded on Wednesday (Apr 9), travel influencer in Thailand Roger Wu Wai-chung interviewed Mor Plai. As Thailand is a popular destination for Hong Kong tourists, Wu represented them in asking whether Thailand is currently safe. Mor Plai indicated that severe flooding would occur in Chiang Mai and other provinces, with water levels reaching several stories high, and Bangkok would also be affected, though not as severely as the floods of more than a decade ago.
She also mentioned potential issues during the mid-April Songkran festival, predicting conflicts at large events, possibly concerts, not necessarily in Bangkok but potentially in Pattaya or Phuket, leading to over a dozen injuries due to people pushing and shoving in panic.
Additionally, she warned of possible shootings stemming from romantic disputes in Thailand. Regarding further earthquakes, Mor Plai noted that Bangkok might experience a secondary quake due to neighboring countries or submarine volcanic activity, but it would not be severe enough to necessitate evacuations or cause buildings to collapse. She advised travelers to stay updated with local news when visiting Thailand.
Hong Kong safe from natural disasters
Addressing concerns about potential disasters in Hong Kong, especially after the Hong Kong Observatory reported an 82 percent chance of a significant earthquake in the Nankai Trough potentially triggering a 10-meter tsunami hitting Hong Kong within six hours, Wu asked Mor Plai about the likelihood of large-scale natural disasters affecting the region. Mor Plai reassured that Hong Kong would be relatively safe, unlikely to experience major earthquakes or tsunamis. She added that while Hong Kong might experience earthquakes, they would not be severe enough to cause building collapses.
Globally, concerns about major disasters in Japan persist. Mor Plai predicted a volcanic eruption crisis in Japan, clarifying it would be a submarine volcano, not Mount Fuji, and the devastation would not be as severe as the 2011 disaster.
