Jardine Matheson announced the peaceful passing of Sir Henry Keswick, chairman emeritus, on Tuesday. He was 86.
Recognized as one of the most influential British business leaders of his time, Sir Henry was a visionary who played a pivotal role in Jardine Matheson's transformative growth across Asia for over 50 years.
During his tenure, Jardine Matheson saw its net assets soar to US$26 billion (HK$202.8 billion) from US$70 million.
The company significantly expanded its presence in the mainland and Hong Kong, while also broadening its reach in southeast Asia.Ben Keswick, the company's executive chairman and Sir Henry's nephew, praised his uncle's exceptional leadership, vision and entrepreneurial spirit, saying: "Through his guidance, Jardine Matheson grew into a leading company in Asia."
He said Sir Henry's belief in adaptability and forward thinking, alongside a commitment to core values, underpinned Jardine's enduring success."On a personal level, he was a great mentor. His wisdom, guidance and unwavering support have been invaluable to me."
