A building manager at Wang Chi House in Wong Fuk Court, Tai Po, went door-to-door on Wednesday (Nov 26) warning residents of a raging No. 5 alarm fire, helping many escape. The blaze spread through eight residential blocks, causing multiple injuries and extensive damage, but only Wang Chi House avoided serious impact.
On social media Thursday (Nov 27), a resident wrote: “Thanks to the Wang Chi House manager, who went door-to-door to evacuate residents. Many didn’t even know about the fire because their windows had been closed for months. Truly life-saving.”
Netizens praised the manager as an “unsung hero” and a “guardian angel,” with comments including: “May he be safe and blessed,” “A responsible manager like him deserves better pay,” and “Thanks to him, so many lives were saved.”
Some careful netizens also pointed out that many residents lived in long-sealed apartments, with windows covered by foam or scaffolding, making it hard to hear or see the fire. Without the manager’s warning, the disaster could have been far worse.
Authorities are investigating the blaze and assessing the damage while supporting affected residents.
