A 23-year-old man was granted bail on Monday after being suspected of damaging two posters promoting next month’s Legislative Council election in Mong Kok.
The defendant, who told the court he was unemployed, was charged with criminal damage and appeared before the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts in the morning.
Magistrate Vivian Ho Wai-han granted the prosecution’s request to adjourn the case to December 16 to allow further police investigation.
The defendant was released on HK$500 cash bail and was ordered not to leave Hong Kong. He was also instructed to stay away from the alleged crime scene.
The court heard that he was suspected of damaging two posters belonging to the Registration and Electoral Office on a footbridge near Argyle Street on Tong Mi Road last Wednesday (Nov 19), without lawful excuse, with the intent to damage the property or being reckless as to whether the property would be damaged.
