Xiaomi has announced a voluntary recall of a specific power bank model over potential overheating risks, with its Hong Kong subsidiary clarifying that units sold in the city are not from affected batches.
The recall involves 146,891 units of the model PB2030MI power banks manufactured between 1 August and 22 September 2024. Xiaomi identified that under certain usage conditions, these devices might malfunction and overheat, creating potential fire hazards.
Although the same model remains available in multiple markets, Xiaomi Hong Kong has confirmed that products distributed locally do not belong to the recalled manufacturing batches.
The company maintains that all power banks currently sold through its Hong Kong channels are safe for use.
Following the discovery of the potential issue, Xiaomi has terminated its relationship with the battery cell supplier responsible for the affected units.
The company has also implemented enhanced quality control measures and introduced more rigorous safety verification procedures for future production.
Hong Kong consumers who own the PB2030MI model are still advised to visit Xiaomi's local website to register their product's serial number for verification and receive further instructions.
Other power bank models in the company's lineup continue to be available normally through Hong Kong retail channels.
