Couple found dead in Sha Tin residence after losing contact for a month

A couple was found dead at their residence in Sha Tin on Sunday after the son reported losing contact with them for nearly a month.

Police received a report around 4pm from a man who noted a strange odor emanating from his parents' residence at City One Shatin.

Officers and firefighters discovered that the couple lying unconscious in the unit, who were later pronounced dead at the scene. 

According to reports, the man has been overseas for a while and regularly spoke with his parents on the phone. However, he lost contact with his parents after the last call on July 9, prompting him to return to Hong Kong on Saturday (Aug 2) for a visit.

The cause of death is currently under investigation. Sources said the couple committed suicide, and no suicide note was found in the unit.
