The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) celebrated a milestone at the 2025 Privacy-Friendly Awards ceremony, recognizing 157 enterprises, government bodies, and private institutions for excellence in personal data protection—a record number of recipients.
Award categories and winners
Twelve institutions received the Gold Award of Excellence, while 109 earned the Gold Award, 28 secured the Silver Award, and 8 were granted the Bronze Award.
This year introduced three new special honors: the Best AI Governance Award, Outstanding Data Protection Officer Award, and Best Data Breach Response Plan Award, with three winners in each category.
Elevating data security standards
Centered on the theme “Ensuring Data Security, Advancing into the New Digital Era,” the event underscored Hong Kong’s commitment to cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.
Undersecretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Clement Woo Kin-man praised the cross-sector participation, noting proactive measures by awardees in finance, healthcare, technology, and the public sector.
“The collective advancement of data protection standards not only supports industry growth but also safeguards national security while maintaining Hong Kong's stability and prosperity,” said Wu.
Unprecedented participation reflects progress
Privacy Commissioner Ada Chung Lai-ling highlighted the 15 percent year-on-year increase in awardees, attributing it to heightened privacy awareness.
She emphasized data security’s role in Hong Kong’s smart city development and AI-driven economy, urging organizations to “build risk resilience and stakeholder trust through ethical practices.”
