The design of the 15th National Games medals was unveiled at a ceremony in Guangdong on Tuesday (Jun 10) and uniting craftsmanship with the spirit of sportsmanship across three regions.
Named "Leap Together," the medals symbolize the collaborative spirit of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in striving for a better future.
Inspired by the emblem of the National Games, the medals feature a three-layered, hierarchical 3D peony motif, complemented by a red neck ribbon that includes floral emblems from the three host regions, celebrating the boundless unity.
One side of the medal features three sets of concentric Möbius rings and 66 ridges along the outer edge, symbolizing endless connections, infinite possibilities, and a tribute to the 66-year history of the National Games.
While competition event medals will showcase peonies, kapok flowers, bauhinia flowers, and lotuses to symbolize the united efforts of the three regions, the mass participation events' medals will feature the National Games' mascot, "Xiyangyang" which is modeled after the Chinese white dolphin, also known as the treasure of the sea.
Additionally, both medal designs will feature wave-like patterns that represent the convergence of rivers across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.
The hanging hole features a "true lover's knot" design inspired by the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, transforming this steel structure into a symbol of the Greater Bay Area's cultural integration.
Unlike previous National Games medals, the emblem on the competitive event medals is presented purely in an image, demonstrating a commitment to innovation and purity.
Medals reflect sporting spirit and glory
Cui Jian, head of the Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau, remarked that the medals and certificates represent the highest honor for athletes who push their limits on the field, expressing hope that the medals convey a message of unity among the three regions for the future.
Incorporating elements from three regions, Chinese track-and-field athlete Su Bingtian noticed that the medals are identical to the 1 yuan coin, evoking a sense of familiarity.
