The Executive Council approved on Tuesday a 3 percent pay increase for all civil servants - including senior, middle, and lower-ranking staff, Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan announced on Tuesday.
The SAR government previously said the decision will take into account staff's response to the pay offers and other factors, including the state of Hong Kong's economy, the government's fiscal position, changes in the cost of living, the net pay trend indicators and civil service morale.
Yeung told the press that she will meet with representatives of civil service unions tomorrow to learn about their feedback before the Executive Council makes a final decision on the wage adjustment.
She said the government will submit the pay rise proposal to the Legislative Council as soon as possible, and the salary adjustment will be backdated to April 1.
According to an annual pay trend survey, regarded as one of the references in determining wage adjustments for the city’s civil servants, it indicated a 5.47 percent wage hike for junior civil servants, and 4.32 percent and 4.01 percent for middle and senior civil servants, respectively.
