Chinese and Hong Kong stocks rose on Thursday after US President Donald Trump paused numerous new tariffs for 90 days, but lagged behind gains in other major Asian markets as China was excluded from the relief and faced a tariff hike up to 125 percent.

Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index rose 417 points, or 2.06 percent, to close at 20,681 on Thursday, marking a three-day winning streak.

The China Enterprises Index gained 132 points, or 1.76 percent, closing at 7,668, while the Hang Seng Tech Index advanced 2.66 percent to 4,813 points.

Turnover on the main board was HK$395.5 billion.

Turnover from northbound trading reached HK$174.91 billion on Thursday, down 0.28 percent from the previous session.

Mainland investors pulled a net HK$4.03 billion from Hong Kong stocks via Stock Connect on Thursday, ending a 13-day buying streak and marking the largest daily outflow in a month.

JD Health (6618) jumped 8.15 percent to close at HK$32.5, making it the top gainer on both the blue-chip and Tech indexes.

In the mainland, the Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.16 percent to close at 3,223 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index gained 2.25 percent, closing at 9,754.
