The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has become a vital engine for medical innovation, nurturing startups develop accessible digital solutions. By providing critical R&D support, mentorship, and industry networking, the HKSTP incubation program has empowered home-grown companies like DRESIO and MedMind Technology to revolutionize healthcare sector. These pioneers are leveraging artificial intelligence to address the challenges of an aging population and the growing need for objective medical data.
Since its founding in 2019, DRESIO has been on a mission to revolutionize how we understand human movement. Alexander Ying, Founder and CEO, recently shared how the company pivoted during the pandemic to bridge a critical gap in healthcare: the lack of objective, digitized data in physiotherapy.
Traditionally, 3D motion analysis required expensive laboratories and wearable sensors. DRESIO’s breakthrough technology uses proprietary AI algorithms to reconstruct 3D biomechanical data from standard 2D webcams or smartphones. “We want to democratize movement analysis for better care,” Ying explained, noting that the vision-only approach is similar to the technology in use by Tesla.
The impact is already visible. DRESIO’s software is used in local hospitals and clinics to automate assessments for conditions like frozen shoulder and fall risks. Beyond clinical settings, the technology has reached the insurance sector, providing “traffic light - red/yellow/green” risk alerts to help employees prevent chronic pain and reduce claims.
Looking ahead, Ying is expanding R&D into occupational and speech therapy, including non-invasive swallowing tests. While some practitioners initially feared AI replacement, Ying emphasizes that DRESIO serves as an assistive tool. By handling time-consuming measurements, it allows therapists to focus on high-value manual care. From its roots in the HKSTP incubation program, DRESIO is now expanding into Southeast Asia and Japan, proving that professional-grade health tech belongs in the hands of everyone.

Founded in 2018 by a team of clinicians and engineers, MedMind Technology is tackling the global challenge of cognitive decline through innovation. During a recent interview, the company shared insights into its journey within the Hong Kong Science Park and its mission to detect brain diseases early.
The company’s flagship product, NeuroGym, transforms traditional medical assessments into engaging, gamified brain training. By moving away from intimidating clinical tests, MedMind encourages seniors to participate in memory and coordination games while an AI backend collects vital health data. “We want to catch cognitive impairment at the early stages when medical intervention is most effective,” the team explained.
The AI technology behind NeuroGym serves two primary functions: precise data analysis and personalization. Beyond tracking correct answers, the system measures reaction times and thought processes—subtle metrics that were previously difficult to quantify. This data is compared against a large database to predict early dementia risks. Additionally, the AI adjusts difficulty levels in real-time to keep users motivated and prevent frustration.
Having successfully integrated into NGO networks and healthcare facilities in Hong Kong, MedMind is now looking toward the future. The company is expanding its focus to include student mental health and pressure management. With plans to enter the Greater Bay Area and Southeast Asia, MedMind aims to bring its homegrown “Healthy Aging” solutions to an increasingly aging global population.

The success of DRESIO and MedMind Technology underscores the effectiveness of the HKSTP ecosystem in bridging the gap between R&D and commercialization. By turning gadgets into diagnostic tools and games into clinical assessments, these companies are making professional-grade healthcare more inclusive and efficient. As both firms begin their expansion into international markets like Southeast Asia, they stand as a testament to Hong Kong’s growing influence as a global hub for health-tech innovation.
HKSTP’s INNOPOLE, the landmark project within the San Tin Technopole, is set to become a strategic hub for the “AI+” initiative, aimed at embedding artificial intelligence across Hong Kong’s industrial DNA. By integrating AI with frontier sectors such as life and health technology, advanced manufacturing, and microelectronics, INNOPOLE seeks to transform traditional workflows into high-value, tech-driven ecosystems. This forward-looking platform aligns perfectly with the breakthroughs achieved by HKSTP startups like DRESIO, which utilizes AI for precise 3D motion analysis, and MedMind, which leverages AI to gamify and digitize cognitive healthcare. INNOPOLE will serve as a critical bridge, scaling such innovative R&D into tangible economic value and high-skilled employment for the city.
