Inchcape Hong Kong has partnered with Chevron Hong Kong Limited to launch the city’s first petrol filling station cum EV charging station at the Caltex service station on Po Kong Village Road in Diamond Hill, featuring two Schneider Electric’s direct current (DC) fast chargers of 120 kW output power for electric private cars and commercial vehicles.
Inchcape Hong Kong stated that the project is built on the government’s “Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles” to support the transition to electric or other new energy vehicles.
It complies with regulations from multiple government departments, including the Environment and Ecology Bureau, Lands Department, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Fire Services Department, Buildings Department, and Transport Department.
Inchcape added that the station is supported by their expertise in electric vehicles and chargers, with Caltex providing the suitable location and coordinating safety management arrangements with the government.
CLP Power also offers technical support and flexible power supply solutions, while Schneider Electric provides comprehensive DC charging solutions and around-the-clock technical support services.
An opening promotion has been offered for the new station. From now until March 15, electric private cars can enjoy a charging rate of HK$2.8 per kWh, which is HK$1 lower than the regular price, while taxis are charged HK$2.5 per kWh, HK$0.16 below the standard rate.
In addition, during peak hours from 3pm to 6pm, the station will provide six reserved charging slots per charger for electric taxis to address drivers’ concern on waiting times. These chargers remain open to all electric vehicles during off-peak hours.
The station is also the city’s first to adopt artificial intelligence (AI)-powered camera technology. The system identifies taxi vehicles based on their characteristics, such as roof lights, half-moon signs, and fleet stickers.
When a vehicle is identified as a taxi during the designated hours from 3pm to 6pm, the system will automatically authenticate its commercial vehicle status, allowing access to discounted charging rates.
Ted Lau Kai-shing, Managing Director of Inchcape Greater China, noted that the company will accelerate the installation of charging facilities across the city, including in commercial buildings, public spaces, private properties, and petrol stations, to actively expand the charging network.
“This milestone reflects Inchcape’s ongoing commitment to supporting Hong Kong’s transition toward a greener, smarter, and more sustainable mobility future,” he said.
