Hong Kong swimmer Ian Ho Yen-tou announced his temporary retirement from swimming to focus on his studies and private life after striking gold in the men's 50m freestyle final at the National Games on Sunday (Nov 16).

According to East Week -- the sister publication of The Standard -- Ho is currently pursuing his master's degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and has also been dating his girlfriend, Jennifer "Jenn" Fleming, for two years.
The 28-year-old swimmer clocked 21.71 seconds in the men's 50m freestyle final, which marks the Hong Kong swimming team's third gold medal at the National Games and Hong Kong's seventh gold medal overall.
After his victory, Jenn immediately shared his photo on her social media, congratulating him on becoming the national champion in 50m freestyle, "Way to go babe! Represent!"

The couple also celebrated their first anniversary during the Paris Olympics, where they took photos together at the Eiffel Tower.
Jenn is an industrial engineer at Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Virginia and also a part-time personal trainer.
She was recognized by the United States Army Materiel Command for her exceptional service and named an Employee of the Quarter for the fourth quarter in fiscal year 2022.
