According to a suicide note posted on his social media platform, it is believed that his actions may have been influenced by concerns regarding his ability to provide for and care for his family.
It has been reported that the man, surnamed Kei, has served in various disciplinary forces and officially resigned from his role as a Customs inspector in mid-July for emigration.
Sources indicate that Kei joined the Customs service in 2009 before transferring to the Fire Services Department, where he served as a Senior Fireman (Control). He subsequently worked as a correctional officer and became a Customs inspector in 2016.
Reports indicated that the wife, surnamed Cheung, was a housewife who occasionally taught tuition classes. She has been operating a YouTube channel since 2024, primarily featuring children's stories in Cantonese, with most of the videos narrated by her 6-year-old eldest son.
Kei and Cheung have known each other since secondary school, according to sources.
The family is preparing to emigrate to the United Kingdom and have their visas approved, but they had to postpone the plan due to the surgery for their 3-year-old son's foot.
It is understood that Kei had been suffering from depression and sought treatment at a private clinic in Tuen Mun approximately six months ago.
