A firefighter from Fangchenggang, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is under investigation for violating working disciplinary regulations after leaving his badge in the car, which his wife improperly used in a high-profile traffic dispute.
The incident happened on July 22, when a female driver of a Mercedes-Benz SUV displaying a credential -- what appeared to be an official badge -- demanded the right of way on a rural road in Jiangshan.
The driver, surnamed Hou, took out the credential labeled "Administrative Law Enforcement" from the vehicle and displayed it to another driver, surnamed Li, who refused Hou's unreasonable demand to reverse.
Dissatisfied with the response from relevant authorities after reporting the incident, Li uploaded dashcam footage to the internet on Thursday.
After investigation, Fangchenggang authorities confirmed that Hou, 28, is a registered resident of a village in Jiangshan and holds no public office.
An inquiry to Hou revealed that the displayed credential belonged to her husband, a firefighter at a fire rescue station in Shangsi County. Hou admitted to using it to intimidate Li into yielding.
The official statement said Hou's actions have caused negative social repercussions and she is under police investigation.
Although her husband was not present at the scene, he is also being investigated for breaking workplace rules as he left his badge in his private car, failing to safeguard his Administrative Law Enforcement Certificate appropriately.
