Amid a wave of restaurant closures, rumors are circulating regarding the possible shutdown of Xin Dau Ji, the acclaimed one-Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant, following a Facebook post.
The post included a photo that appeared to be an internal notice announcing the restaurant's closure on July 9.
According to the notice, the restaurant has been severely impacted by ongoing challenges in the catering industry, particularly the weakening consumer patterns. Despite actively exploring cost-cutting measures, the restaurant is unable to withstand the current severe business environment, leading to the decision to close.
The notice emphasized that this decision was made after careful consideration and expressed gratitude to all employees for their dedication and hard work.
Reports indicated that the restaurant at MegaBox appeared dark and empty around noon, with a sign noting renovations in progress and suspended operations posted outside.
Founded in 2006, the MegaBox branch is the remaining branch of Xin Dau Ji in Hong Kong, which once operated at least six branches across the city.
Known for its traditional Cantonese cuisine, including roasted suckling pig and a variety of dim sum, its flagship store in Jordan earned a Michelin star in both 2012 and 2013.
Notably, the Causeway Bay Branch abruptly announced its closure in February 2019, along with reports of unpaid employee MPF contributions for up to nine months, affecting over 30 employees.
