The ceremony was held at the Eternal Memory, where Hsu has been laid to rest since her passing in Japan on February 2, 2025, at the age of 48. Her mother, younger sister Dee Hsu, husband Koo Junyup and longtime friends attended the event, unveiling the statue covered in pink fabric despite rainy weather.
The memorial statue was personally designed by Koo. It features a marble base and a pathway of nine white steps arranged in an “S” shape, symbolizing both Hsu’s name and elements significant to their relationship.
The design incorporates personal details reflecting the couple’s love story. Hsu had previously tattooed the number “nine” on her ankle for Koo, as the pronunciation of “nine” in Chinese sounds the same as Koo’s surname. Koo later said with a smile that Hsu had misunderstood the Korean language when she did so.
Several celebrities from the entertainment industry were present to pay their respects, including Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Kevin Tsai, Rainie Yang, Show Lo and other members of the original Meteor Garden cast.
Since Hsu’s death, Koo has remained in Taiwan and is said to visit her grave daily. According to a recent South Korean television program that revisited the couple’s reunion and marriage, Koo described his grief as overwhelming, saying he continues to draw strength from his devotion to his late wife.
