A viral "Kiss Cam" moment from Coldplay's concert has not only exposed an affair between the married Astronomer Ex-CEO Andy Byron and the company's human resources chief Kristin Cabot, but also shed light on the issue of infidelity in the tech industry.
From tech CEO to internet meme
Before the awkward embrace captured on the "Kiss Cam" at Coldplay's Boston concert on July 17, Byron was a rising star at Astronomer, a data infrastructure startup that achieved "unicorn" status with a valuation of over US$1 billion in 2022.
However, after Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, jokingly questioned whether the pair were having an affair, internet sleuths uncovered their marital statuses—Byron is married with two children, while Cabot is married into Boston's famous Cabot family.
Within days, Astronomer placed Byron on leave before his resignation, while Cabot also stepped down. Shortly after, Byron's wife, Megan Kerrigan, reportedly dropped his surname and disclosed Byron's intimate messages exchanged with OnlyFans creator Sophie Rain.
Meanwhile, Cabot's husband, Andrew Cabot, CEO of Privateer Rum, has distanced himself from Kristin, with paparazzi recently capturing her without her wedding ring, fueling divorce rumors.
Tech's infamous "cheating culture"?
In fact, the viral "Kiss Cam" moment not only spotlights one affair but reflects a broader trend in Silicon Valley, where high-profile extramarital relationships are more common than expected.
Contrary to the stereotype of IT professionals being solely focused on technology, surveys indicate that the tech sector frequently ranks high for infidelity and divorce rates.
Complicated dating history of Tesla CEO
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is known not just for his achievements but also for his complicated romantic history, which includes three marriages and 14 children.
According to reports, Musk has engaged in unconventional relationships, including a rumoured affair with the then-wife of Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, and supermodel Cara Delevingne.
Reports even suggested he had a brief relationship with the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, straining their friendship, along with rumours of Musk kneeling to beg for forgiveness from Brin after the affair was exposed.
Although Musk denied these allegations, the fallout has reportedly soured their relationship.
Reports indicated that Brin also has a history of being a disloyal partner, with his first marriage purportedly ending when his romance with Google Glass marketing manager Amanda Rosenberg -- who was born in Hong Kong and was dating another Google senior employee Hugo Barra at the time, was revealed 10 years ago.

Their relationship led to a significant divorce settlement, with Scott receiving approximately 4 percent of Amazon shares valued at around US$37 billion.
Meanwhile, Sanchez also divorced her second husband, a prominent Hollywood talent agent, and the couple recently tied the knot in a grand ceremony in Venice at the end of last month.
Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, also faced allegations of affairs during his 27-year marriage to Melinda French Gates, alongside troubling alleged connections to the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender who used wealth and power to carry out his abuses against women and children.
