Hong Kong and China stocks slumped on Wednesday, tracking broader weakness in Asian stock markets amid worries of a looming energy crisis.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index plunged 518 points, or 2 percent, to 25,249 points at the close, after dropping over 800 points at one point in the morning.
The market turnover was HK$364.3 billion.
Financial and oil shares led the loss, with AIA (1299) losing more than 4.7 percent. China Life Insurance (2628) and HSBC (0005) both slid 3.6 percent.
PetroChina (0857) also fell 3 percent.
The Hang Seng Tech Index declined by 1 percent to 4,829 points.
In the mainland, the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index fell by 1 percent to 4,082 points and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Component Index was down by 0.75 percent to 13,917 points.
