Hang Seng Index reaches 24,000 points

The Hang Seng Index reached the 24,000-point level shortly after kicking off morning trade, following a rally in the US stock market.

The benchmark index rose nearly 500 points, or more than 2 percent to 24,089 points. 

The Hang Seng Tech Index gained by 3.4 percent to 4,951 points.
