Chinese gas pipeline operator, China Gas Holdings (0384), whose shares were halted from trading in the morning on Tuesday said a gas explosion on Sunday, June 13, in an area in Shiyan city in Hubei province is under investigation.
“The cause of the incident is currently uncertain and is under investigation,'' China Gas said.
The blast killed 25 people and injured more than 100, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has r eported on Monday.
Shiyan Dongfeng Zhongran City Gas Development Company, a non-wholly owned subsidiary, is one of the gas suppliers for the area, China Gas said in a statement.
The operation right for piped gas in that area was originally owned by a gas company under Dongfeng Motor Corporation. On December 22, 2015, Dongfeng Motor contributed the gas pipeline network and related facilities as capital and a subsidiary contributed cash to jointly establish the project company to operate the gas business in the area, China Gas said.
The group “promptly established an emergency response leading group to guide the regional management center and the project company to closely cooperate with the relevant government departments to, among others, take on-site emergency measures and investigate the cause of the incident,'' the statement said.
Shares have gained by more than 2 percent after the stocks resumed trading today.
