Spokesperson Mao Ning told a regular press briefing that Beijing is deeply concerned about the current situation in the Middle East and has immediately engaged in mediation efforts. Foreign Minister Wang Yi has held phone conversations with his counterparts from Russia, Iran, Oman, France, Israel, Saudi Arabia and the UAE to exchange views on the regional situation.
China emphasized that all parties should abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and oppose the arbitrary use of force in international relations. Mao stressed that military operations must cease immediately and dialogue should resume as soon as possible to prevent further escalation and spread of conflict.
"War and force cannot fundamentally resolve problems. Dialogue and negotiation are the correct path," Mao said. She urged parties involved in the conflict to fulfill their international obligations, ensure civilian safety, and avoid attacking civilian facilities.
China will continue to maintain communication with all relevant parties, including those directly involved in the conflict, strengthen mediation efforts, and build consensus, Mao added.
