The government canteen in Shunde, a district of Foshan in Guangdong, has been ranked by residents and tourists as one of the most popular destinations during the National Day Golden Week.
Since its first opening to the public on October 1, the canteen's daily supply of 1,500 lunch sets has sold out within half an hour each day.
It is reported by local media that the canteen, which typically serves about 1,000 government staff, is now open to the public from 11.45am to 1pm, offering 20-yuan lunches with no prior registration required.
The set meals have been well received by visitors, featuring diverse dishes such as chicken mid-wings, curry beef offal, fried carp in sweet and sour sauce, and garlic lettuce, all served with rice. The venue also offers Shunde's classic dessert, double-skin milk.
Mainland netizens have praised the government's openness and accessibility, with some calling the government compound the "White House of Shunde."
To further facilitate the public, the compound has established a public service point offering free drinking water and opened approximately 1,200 parking spaces free of charge.
Additional staff, including volunteers and auxiliary police officers, have been stationed throughout the compound to assist.
