The Bruce Lee statue at Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui has put on a new sweatshirt as autumn has arrived.

The Bruce Lee Club has collaborated with local underwear brand Lee Kung Man to put a new white undershirt on Lee’s statue to recreate his look in the 1971 film The Big Boss, as well as to celebrate the late kung fu star’s 81st birthday.

The club said it has taken reference from the clothes-changing tradition of the Le Petit Julien statue in Brussels, Belgium. It hoped to work together with artists and designers to create new looks for the statue in the future.

Westley Wong Chun-yat, the designer of the new look, said the undershirt consists of black and white, with words reflecting Lee's philosophy, such as “shapeless” and “like water,” stiched to its back.

“Wearing the shirt on the statue is challenging as its limbs are not flexible, so we need to use touch fasteners to put it in place,” he said.

The statue was erected on November 27, 2005, on Lee’s 65th birthday, and has since become a landmark.
