China has warned car manufacturers against "exaggerated and false" publicity, state media reported on Friday, citing an industry ministry meeting, after a recent fatal accident raised widespread concerns over vehicle safety.
Manufacturers must "thoroughly conduct combined driving assistance testing and validation, clearly define system function boundaries and safety response measures," officials said during the meeting.
China is banning automakers from using the terms "smart driving" and "autonomous driving" when they advertise driving assistance features, and will tighten rules around such technology upgrades, Reuters reported on Thursday.
