China has passed a revision of the law on guarding state secrets, state media reported on Tuesday, following a regular meeting of the standing committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).
At the closing meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, lawmakers voted to adopt a revised Law on Guarding State Secrets.
The revised law, which went through a previous revision in 2010, will provide a stronger legal guarantee for "doing a good job" in work deemed as confidential and for safeguarding China's national security and interests, said Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.
President Xi Jinping signed a presidential order to promulgate the law.
Another important task at the standing committee session is to prepare for the second session of the 14th NPC, which will be held in early March.
This year's Two Sessions will be focused on high-quality development, Zhang Shuhua, director of the Institute of Political Sciences at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said.
He noted that deputies to the NPC and members of the CPPCC National Committee will likely focus on discussing how to proceed with the high-quality development of the economy and how to boost confidence in the Chinese economy further.
